The Chadron City Council met Monday night in the Council Chambers at City Hall.

The big news of the meeting was the review of the status of the fireworks restrictions passed at the previous June meeting.

After getting an update from Chadron’s fire chief the council voted to amend the earlier resolution and then voted to ban the sale and use of fireworks in Chadron this year due to the dry conditions.

It was a 5-0 vote with the council feeling it was better to err on the side of caution.

The original resolution would have permitted the sale of fireworks in the city but only allowed them to be fired on July 3rd and 4th. Violations of the new ordinance would be considered an illegal detonation.

In other council news the council received the cities annual audit report and found that Chadron is in pretty good shape overall.

An application for a Class C Beer, Wine, Spirits On and Off Site Sale was approved for The Roost on Main. The application was filed by Cheana and Brandon Wright of Chadron. They hope to open around the Fourth of July in the location formerly known as The Ridge.

John Reed of the Northwest Economic Development Corporation let the council know he is still trying to get a business into the former Safeway building and has an interested party but finds trying to work with Safeway difficult. He said he is also working to replace Pizza Hut. He has made contact with Daland Corporation. Daland is involved in several former Pizza Hut properties. Reed said he thinks Chadron would be a good fit for a Classic Pizza Hut because of the college and the limited options currently in town.

The council also approved the use of Railroad Park for this years Bands on Bordeaux.
