The Chadron Cardinals went on the road Friday Night looking to continue their undefeated season in Gering. The Cardinals struck first but penalties were the difference as Gering won 23-20.
Chadron got the ball first and drove down the field with a six play drive, finished off with a 20 yard touchdown pass from Tobin Landen to Bricen Wright, the first of two times they connected on the night. The score after the first quarter was 6-0 Chadron.
Defense started taking precedence as the teams traded possession. Then Quinn Bailey had a 33 yard touchdown run, his longest carry of the night as the Cardinals led 12-0. Gering bounced back with a Rece Knight to Barron Williams 11 yard TD pass to cut into the lead making it 12-7 Chadron which was the halftime score.
Gering struck first in the second half with a touchdown after an injury to a Chadron player. The Cardinals bounced right back with a 64 yard Landen to Bricen Wright hitch and go to put the Cardinals back in the lead.
Gering proceeded to take the following kickoff back 70 yards for a touchdown which put them back ahead for good with Gering winning 23-20.
The Cardinals fall to 7-1 and will host 8-0 Sidney on Friday in a game with playoff seeding at stake.
