The Chadron Cardinals took on the Ogallala Indians Monday night in the first round of the George Watson Chadron Rotary Classic. The Cardinals struggled against the unrelenting pressure Ogallala showed all night with the girls team falling 57-28 while the boys dropped a 70-39 decision.
The girls game was all Ogallala from the beginning with a full court press Chadron could not figure out. The Indians jumped out to a 12-3 lead in the first quarter and carried a 33-15 lead into the half. The pressure continued in the second half with Ogallala out-scoring Chadron 24-13 to win 57-28.
In the boys game the Cardinals came out firing against the consensus number one team in C-1. Thomas Smith hit three 3โs in the first quarter but it was Ogallala up 14-11 when the buzzer sounded. Ogallala stepped up the pressure defensively during the second quarter, holding Chadron to six points in the quarter to go into the half up 31-17. Ogallala continued running up the score in the second half to finish off the 70-39 win.
