The Chadron Volunteer Fire Department made a rapid and seamless response across the street from their station to handle a call from Safeway Tuesday afternoon.
Just before 5 oโclock Tuesday afternoon, Chadron Fire was dispatched to Safeway for a refrigerating unit on fire.
According to fire chief Branden Martens, crews arrived to find a lot of smoke, but no active fire. Armed with two city pumpers, firefighters were able to quickly push out the smoke using positive pressure ventilation fans.
Chief Martens says it was likely due to a cooler malfunction.
Safeway was evacuated and closed for the safety of customers.
