Chadron High alum Will Pope has been named the head boys basketball coach at Papillion-LaVista High School. The announcement was made in a press release from the school.

Monarch Athletic Director Jason Ryan said, “Will has a variety of experiences to prepare him for this opportunity. He’s been an integral part of Omaha Skutt’s success over the past five seasons and we are excited about the future of Monarch basketball under his leadership.”

Pope is a 2007 graduate of Chadron High School and helped the Cardinals to a state runner-up finish his Senior season.

As an assistant coach Pope has made stops at Chadron State, Sidney, Elkhorn Mount Michael, and Skutt Catholic.

Papillion-LaVista went 10-13 this past season and were beaten out by Elkhorn South in the semifinals of the A-4 district tournament. The Monarchs were state runners up in 2017 but haven’t been back to Lincoln since.
