Chadron High Girls Take B-6 Track and Field Title

The Chadron High Track and Field team ventured down to Alliance Tuesday for the Class B-6 District Track and Field meet with one goal in mind, make it to Burke Stadium. The goal was accomplished for 12 different student athletes from Chadron automatically qualifying along with winning a district title in girls.

The day was bright for sophomore Addie Gruver as she will be participating in four events at state as she won the 100 with a school record time of 12.28 to take the district title, one of four for her on the day. Gruver won the 200, long jump and was a part of the 4×100 relay team with Rylan Barry, Brooklyn Hoffman, and Alex Rasmussen that broke the school record with a time of 50.03. 

Rasmussen will also be participating in the 300 meter hurdles after finishing second. Gracie Calkins is heading to state after finishing second in the 3200. Vrasai Sayaloune got third in discus to go to state, along with Beau Behrends in the 1600. Hannah Sprock tied for third in shot put as well.

Wrapping up the automatic qualifiers on the district champion girls side was Sophie Watson as the junior won the high jump. 

On the boys side there were only two automatic qualifiers as sophomore Reid Griese tied for third in long jump while Johnathon Hoffman also got third in the 110 meter hurdles to automatically qualify for state. 

There was one qualifier via the wild card as Trae Owsley’s leap of 21′ 8.25″ put him as one of the top six non automatic qualifiers in the state, thus giving him a berth in the State Track meet.

The Class B State Track and Field Meet kicks off on Wednesday, May 20th and will wrap up on the 21st.
