The Chadron Platte Valley Bank American Legion Post 12 juniors went up to Spearfish over this past weekend looking to bring home some hardware. The juniors fell just short, going 3-1 to finish 3rd in the tournament.
They opened up the tournament Friday with a loss, falling to Rapid City Post 320 4-10, they turned around and immediately defeated Sheridan, Wyoming 19-7. Then on Saturday in the final game of pool play Chadron continued the hot hitting, taking down Belle Fourche South Dakota 10-1. That put them in the third place game on Sunday.
In the rain shortened third place game against Billings, Montana they added another win, taking third by a 9-4 final score.
Some notable stats throughout the tournament include Tobin Landen with eight RBI’s vs Sheridan, he finished with nine total in the tournament. Braden Wright finished with eight RBI’s in the tournament. Bricen Wright had five RBI’s vs Belle Fourche and finished the tournament with seven. Tobin Meyer finished with six runs batted in total. Tayven Jenkins and Trae Owsley each had three. Jack O’Brian, Derek Bissonette, and Cayden Ryan each drove in one run during the tournament.
Pitching wise, Chadron was led by Bissonette who threw a gem in Saturday’s game vs Belle Fourche, going the entire game he allowed three hits, no runs while striking out 14 batters. Braden Wright got the credit for the win vs Sheridan and Meyer got the credit for Sunday’s win vs Billings, Montana.Â
The juniors get set to host Bridgeport on Tuesday in the regular season finale, before going to McCook on Friday to play Gothenburg in the area tournament. Chadron will be the three seed in the tournament which will send the winner to the state tournament.
