Chadron Legion Team Picks Up First 2 Wins Of The Season At Their Wooden Bat Tournament

The Chadron American Legion Post 12 Platte Valley Bank Seniors went 2-0 Saturday at their annual Wood Bat tournament, getting their first 2 wins of the season.

Chadron beat Martin 8-0 in their first game as Creighton Ryan threw a 3-hitter. The offensive highlight was a home run by Edwin Fillspipe

Fillspipe had an even more dramatic round-tripper in the 2nd game as it capped a 3-run rally in the bottom of the 6th to give Chadron a 10-9 walk-off victory in the time-shortened game..

Valentine exploded for 5 runs in the top of the 1st, but Chadron got 1 back in the bottom of the inning and tied it in the 2nd. They scored once in the 4th to go ahead and once in the 5th to tie the game, but trailed 9-7 going into the bottom of the 6th.

Broc Berry, who missed the Martin game because he was busy winning offensive MVP honors at the West Nebraska All-Star Football Game in Scottsbluff, made it back for Valentine and went 2-2 with 2 walks, 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored.

Chadron wraps up the tournament Sunday night at 6:00, but the Chadron Juniors are also in action at home as they play at 2:00. The juniors played Saturday night in Rapid City and beat the Douglas Patriots varsity 12-4.
