The Chadron Police Department has completed its participation with the National High Traffic Safety Administrationโs and the Nebraska Department of Transportationโs Office of Highway Safety grant, Speeding Slows You Down high-visibility campaign.
From July 12, 2024 to July 31, 2024, 9 officers with the Chadron Police Department spent 6 hours each working speed enforcement on Highway 385 and Highway 20 through the City of Chadron.
The 6 hours that each officer worked was paid at an overtime rate to each officer and the grant will reimburse the overtime of each officer for a total of $2,238.79.
During the grant time worked, officers of the Chadron Police Department issued 32 total citations to motorists to include 28 speeding violations, 2 citations for unregistered vehicles, 1 citation for no operatorโs license and 1 citation for violation of suspension/revocation. In total, a 104 motor vehicles contacts were made for various violations.
The grant time allowed the police department to place additional officers on the highways to specifically enforce speed related issues through the City of Chadron on Highways 20 and 385.
We believe this grant was beneficial in reducing overall speeds on the highway during this time period through the high visibility patrols and our contacts with the motoring public. We continue to ask everyone to slow down. Our goal is to save lives and reduce accidents.
