On October 11, 2024. The Chadron Police Department was alerted to a stolen motor vehicle
travelling west into Chadron from the east on Highway 20 with New Mexico license plates.
The vehicle was identified as a gray 2018 Audi Q3. Officers began searching for the vehicle and observed a vehicle matching the stolen vehicle at a local restaurant in Chadron. Chadron officers asked for assistance from the Dawes County Sheriffโs Office and together the officers and deputies made contact with the vehicle in the parking lot of the restaurant. The vehicle was unoccupied at the time of contact.
Chadron police officers entered the restaurant and contact a three people inside eating, who advised they had been occupants of the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 22-year-old Ramon Romero of Taos Pueblo, New Mexico. During the investigation, officers
learned Romero had two warrants for his arrest out of New Mexico.
As a result, Romero was placed under arrest and transported to the Dawes County Jail.
Romero was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, (Class IIA Felony), Possession of Marijuana less than an ounce (Infraction) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Infraction).
Additionally, Romero was arrested on multiple warrants for his arrest out of New Mexico.
The Chadron Police Department received assistance from the Dawes County Sheriffโs Office
with this investigation.
