Chadron, NE – The Chadron Police Department is announcing their participation in the upcoming Make it Click seatbelt enforcement event early this summer, occurring between May 15th and May 31st, 2026.
Wearing a seatbelt is one of the best ways to enhance safety in regards to motor vehicle transportation. NDOT produced the following in relation to seatbelt use: “in Nebraska, 227 people died and 12,456 were injured in traffic crashes in 2023. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among those ages 5-24. The observed seat belt use rate in 2023 for drivers and passengers was 77.3%. Seat belts – when used – reduce the risk of fatal injury to front-seat passenger car occupants by 45% and light truck occupants by 60%.”
In a pre-enforcement survey conducted in 2026, the Chadron Police Department observed 66% of drivers and passengers in Chadron using seatbelts. With 34% of driver’s and passengers not wearing seatbelts, Chadron has more unbelted travelers than the total state average in 2023.
Between May 15th and May 31st, 2026, the Chadron Police Department, through grant funds provided by the NDOT, will increase the number of officers patrolling at any given time. Increasing the number of officers on patrol will allow enhanced focus on searching for improper or unused occupant protection systems.
