Baseball, like every other sport, has games that are crazy, entertaining in many different ways. Games can be fun to watch like the 10-9 win for Chadron over Valentine on June 1st to get their second win of the season. But baseball does not get much better than a baseball game that is a 3-2, 11 inning pitchers duel that Chadron won Saturday night. In a game that ended at 11:40 pm, the Chadron Platte Valley Bank American Legion Post 12 seniors keep their season alive by taking down Gering.
Gering got two runs quick in the bottom of the first off Chadron starter Broc Berry. That was in for Gering for scoring as Berry settled in and by settling in. He had 12 strikeouts in six and a third innings pitch for the no decision. Chadron got one back in the top of the second on a wild pitch that allowed Derek Bissonette to cross home plate.
Both teams were settled in after that as the next run did not score until the top of the sixth inning when Berry brought home Logan Slama on an RBI single to make it 2-2.
Gering had runners in scoring, well winning position multiple times but Landen who came in to pitch in relief for Berry kept making pitches that produced outs.
In the top of the 11th inning Berry laced a one out triple to right field. Landen was up next and drove Berry home on an RBI single to left field to give Chadron the 3-2 lead.
Landen, still pitching for Chadron, got two quick outs. Then at 11:40, got the Gering batter to fly out to center field as Chadron pulled off the thrilling 3-2 win to keep their season alive.
Landen got credit for the win on the mound going the final 4 โ innings in relief, striking out three while allowing three baserunners with no runs.
Berry went 3-5 with an RBI and run scored.
Chadron moves to play Ogallala Sunday in another elimination game.
