Chadron Receives Donation Of Protective Vest For New K9 Officer

Loading

The Chadron Police Department’s K9 officer will soon join her fellow local “street cops” in wearing a vest for protection from guns and knives.

The vest for Officer Sukey, a 2-year old German shepherd, is coming at no-cost to Chadron from Vested Interest In K9s, a non-profit organization, thanks to a specific donation from an Oklahoma City woman.

Sukey’s vest will be embroidered with the words “This gift of protection provided by Leah Beale.” Delivery is expected within 8-to-10 weeks.

There are an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s throughout the United States, and Vested Interest in K9s has provided over 5,350 vests valued at $6.9-million dollars since its establishment in 2009 using both private and corporate donations.

Each vest has a value of $1,800 and is custom-fitted to a specific four-legged officer at least 20 months old and actively employed and certified with law enforcement or related agencies. Those with expired vests are also eligible.

Vested Interest says it accepts tax-deductible contributions in any amount, but that a single donation of $985 will sponsor one vest.

Donations may be mailed to Vested Interest in K9s Inc, PO Box 9, East Taunton, MA 02718 or online at vik9s.org.
