The Chadron High softball team combined to beat Bayard and Hershey 26-0 on Monday and win the C-10 sub-district championship, sending them to a best of 3 district championship series this weekend. It will be Chadron’s first appearance in a district final since 2017.
Chadron took advantage of 7 hits, 7 walks and a 10 run 2nd inning to take down Bayard 12-0 in 3-innings. Meredith Rhembrandt went 2-for-2 with a pair of singles and Embers Diers went 1-for-2 with a 2-RBI single.
In the final, four of Chadron’s seven hits were for extra bases as the Cards rolled Hershey 14-0.
Just like the first game, the 2nd inning was fruitful for Chadron as they brought in 11 runs in the inning to blow up a 3-0 lead into the 14-0 final score. The highlight of the night came on Diers three run homer to dead center as part of the 11-run 2nd.
Diers finished 2-for-3 including a triple with 4-RBI’s. Kinley Richardson went 2-for-3 with a single and a triple and 3-RBI’s.
Maci Rutledge shut down the Hershey offense, giving up just two hits and striking out 5.
The Cardinals now wait to see who their opponent will be and what day the series will be held. We will have coverage of the district final on KCSR and Chadrad.com.
