The Chadron softball team captured 5th place on Saturday at the Lexington Invite with a 4-2 win over Alliance.
An Ember Diers RBI single in the top of the 5th broke a 2-all tie and a Meradith Rhembrandt ground out drove in the insurance run to help the Cardinals to their first 3-1 start since 2013.
Chadron started the day with an 11-5 loss to Holdredge/Adams Central . The Red Birds took a 5-3 lead into the bottom of the 3rd when HAC struck for 7 runs in the inning. A solo homer in the bottom of the 4th capped off the scoring.
In the consolation semi Chadron defeated Southern Valley/Alma for the 2nd time in as many days with a 15-3 victory. Seven Cardinals had RBI’s and ended the game by run rule with 7 runs in the bottom of the 3rd.
Chadron is on the road Tuesday at Alliance for their only game this week.
