Loading

The Chadron High softball team was on the road for a two day road trip over the weekend and brought home some wins. The weekend started with a doubleheader in Imperial on Friday vs Chase County and the Cardinals won both. Then on Saturday in the North Platte Invite the Cardinals went 1-2, finishing 6th.

Friday in Imperial the Cardinals dominated the Longhorns of Chase County winning 13-2 in the first game then in the second, won 14-6. The Cardinals got up three in the top of the first inning and continued stretching the lead into the second, leading 7-0 before the Longhorns got their first run across. Chadron added three more in the third and fourth to win by 10 run rule 13-2. Addie Gruver, Avrielle Sager, Jae Gooder, Brylee Huffman and Jodean Chesley scored two runs each in the game. Chelsey was the winning pitcher while Gooder got a save.

The second game saw the Cardinals win 14-6. It was another strong start for the Cardinals as they had seven runs in the top of the first, but unlike the first game. Chase County countered with three in the bottom. Chadron themselves added three more in the top of the second to carry a 10-3 lead. That lead stayed the same until the bottom of the fourth where the Longhorns got one run across to make it 10-4. The teams traded two runs in the sixth with Chadron adding two more in the seventh to win 14-6.

Gruver had another good game going 3-5 with two RBIโ€™s. Chesley scored two runs along with Sarah LeBere. Gooder got the win going six innings with 10 strikeouts and LeBere had the save.

Saturday the Cardinals were in North Platte for the North Platte Invite. The Cardinals opened up the tournament taking down Alliance 16-15, the sixth time they beat Alliance this season. The Cardinals in the second round fell to the one seed in the tournament Ralston 10-0 which snapped a five game winning streak for the Cardinals. Then in the fifth place game vs Gering the Cardinals fell 9-6 to finish sixth.

The Cardinals are now set to host Gering on Tuesday night. We will have the game with pregame at 5:30 and first pitch at 6 on 107.7 KBPY FM and chadrad.com
