Chadron Splits Weekend In Wood Bat Tournament

Loading

The Chadron Platte Valley Bank American Legion Post 12 juniors hosted a wood bat tournament over the weekend. The juniors went 2-2 over the weekend having won both of their games on Saturday and losing both on Sunday.

The first game of the weekend for the juniors saw Chadron win in dominating fashion over Sheridan County, winning by a 12-4 final. Bricen Wright went 2-2 with two RBI’s while Tayven Jenkins went 2-3 while getting the win as the starting pitcher. He pitched three and two thirds innings while giving up four earned runs and striking out six.

The second game on Saturday saw the juniors take on a prep team composed of both Chadron and Hot Springs players. The juniors got out of the gate quickly, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first and did not look back. Both Bricen and Braden Wright went 2-2 and scored two runs each in the win for the juniors. Aksel Lans got the win on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up one run and striking out two for the juniors.

Sunday was a much different story for the juniors as they went 0-2, falling to Dakota Kings and Spearfish. In the first game the juniors got blasted by Dakota Kings, but did not give up a crooked number in any inning. Dakota Kings never scored more than four in an inning but scored at least two in four of the five innings played. Chadron was not able to to keep the hot bats from Saturday going, falling 11-2.

The last game of the tournament may have been the most entertaining game as Spearfish won 6-5. The teams traded blows throughout the game, with Spearfish striking first in the top of the 1st with two runs, it took Chadron the bottom of the first and second to even up the game at two a piece going into the third inning. Spearfish answered with one in the third and two of the forth to steer clear of Chadron but they did not give up without a fight. Getting one back in the bottom of the forth and loading the bases with a chance to send the tournament off with a walk off. But a five pitch strikeout sealed the victory for Spearfish.

Chadron went 2-2 on the tournament and will be off until Wednesday when they along with the seniors will host Westco out of Scottsbluff. First pitch for juniors is at five.
