The Chadron Cardinals ventured to Gering Friday night to take on the Gering Bulldogs. The Cardinals fell in the girls game 58-29 but won the boys game 58-50.
The Cardinals found themselves down 19-7 after the first quarter then 31-16 at half. Chadron played better during the second half but ended the game by falling 58-29.
Thaivuhn Sayaloune led the Cardinals with seven points off the bench. Jezy Alcorn and Gracie Calkins each had five, Jacey Turman had three. Reese Ritterbush, Sophie Watson, and Jove Griese each had two while Rylan Barry had one.
The boys game was a typical Chadron/Gering matchup with the game tight throughout with the Cardinals sneaking out with a 58-50 win.
Chadron streaked out to a 19-13 lead at the end of the first quarter on the heels of three made 3โs. Gering chewed back into the game during the second quarter, cutting it down to two but it was the Cardinals who went into the locker room up 30-25.
Gering came out hot in the second half, taking the lead twice but it was Chadron who eked out a two point lead going into the fourth quarter. The final frame was all Chadron with the Cardinals rushing the lead up to 13 but finished with an eight point win by a 58-50 score.
Brady Daniels led with 22 points on the night. Derek Bissonette had 14 points, Talon Jelinek had nine. Thomas Smith was next with seven points, Tobin Landen had five including a massive fourth quarter three and Cole Carnahan had two.
The Cardinals girls sit at 9-6 while the boys moved to 7-7. Next up is Gordon-Rushville Saturday afternoon with girls varsity set for 4:30 with the boys to follow. We will have the game on 610am KCSR with coverage beginning at approximately 4:20.
