Chadron State College Celebrating MLK Over 4 Days

Loading

Chadron State College has observed Martin Luther King Jr Day with special programs for many years and this year is no different.

The school has stretched its remembrance of the slain civil rights leader and advocate of non-violence with 4 days of events organized by the Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion Committee.

Committee member Jen Schaer says this year’s theme is “Because of You – We Are Here” with all the events free and open to the public. Schaer says the first 2 are today.

Schaer adds that it also supports student leadership development and diversity while reaffirming each individual’s humanity and purpose.

Tomorrow night at 6:00 in the Ballroom, the committee hosts a meet-and-greet followed by dialogue circles designed to increase understanding for participants of how they can help make others feel comfortable and willing to explore racial topics.

On Wednesday, CSC alum and football player turned sports marketer DeAndre Barthwell of Las Vegas will speak via video at 6:00 in the Student Center Bordeaux Room about his experiences at CSC and his career while offering advice for students about preparing to enter the workforce.

The Martin Luther King Jr observance concludes Thursday night at 6:00, again in the Bordeaux Room, with a Words and Music Open Mic Night, open to the public.

The Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion Committee is joined in sponsoring the various events by the CSC Athletic and Music departments, the Residence Life Association, The Pit, and Sigma Tau Delta.
