The Chadron High softball team swept through their triangular with Alliance and Chase County on Saturday.
The Cardinals made quick work of the Longhorns first in a 10-0, 4-inning victory. Kinley Richardson showed why they call her speedy with a 2-run, inside the park home run in the bottom of the 1st inning.
Chadron would tack on 5 more in the 3rd on RBI’s from Josie Downing, Ember Diers, Sarah LaBere, Meredith Rhembrandt and Maci Rutledge. An error and a Josslyn Pourier RBI closed out the game in the bottom of the 4th.
It took heroics from Rhembrandt and Rutledge for Chadron to pull off the come from behind win over Alliance 8-7.
Trailing 7-6 in the bottom of the 7th, Rhembrandt smoked a solo homer to center field to tie the game at 7. Three batters later Rutledge would drive in Pourier for the winning run.
Chadron jumped out to a 5-0 after the 1st inning but Alliance responded with 5 in the top of the 4th.
The Cards reclaimed the lead at 6-5 with a Diers RBI in the bottom of the fram, but against the Bulldogs came back and took the lead with two runs in the top of the 5th.
Chadron is home today for the C-10 sub-district tournament and will start off with Bayard at 3:00 pm. Hershey and Chase County will meet in the other semifinal at 5. The winners will play at 7:00 for the sub-district championship and the opportunity to advance to the district championship this weekend.
