The Chadron High boys and girls basketball teams were swept in the championship games of the Chadron Rotary George Watson Holiday Classic on Friday at the Chicoine Center at Chadron State College.
The Lady Cardinals were hampered by a scoreless 4th in a 34-25 loss to Custer. Chadron overcame a 5-point first quarter deficit and held a 17-16 lead at the half.
Custer reclaimed a 29-25 lead after three quarters before both teams failed to score a field goal, but the Wildcats went 5 of 8 at the free throw line down the stretch to clinch the win.
Demi Ferguson’s 9 first half points ended up being the team high.
A slow first quarter got the best of the Chadron boys in a 52-38 loss to Custer. The Wildcats jumped out to a 15-4 first quarter lead and extended it out to 31-18 at the half.
The Cards pulled within single digits at the end of the third after outsourcing Custer 11-7 in the quarter, but the ‘Cats quickly pushed the lead back out to double digits and Chadron wouldn’t threaten the rest of the way.
Xander Provance finished with 15 points and Tyler Spotted Elk scored 10.
Chadron will travel to Hot Springs on Tuesday.
