The Chadron Cardinals boys and girls wrestling teams dueled against Alliance Thursday night in Alliance. The boys fell by a 38-36 score while the girls team took down Alliance 47-16.
The boys match was a thrilling, intense duel between the two schools separated by an hour drive. Chadron started the night with three straight wins with Zane Cullers starting off with a pin late in the first round at 165. Braden Wright was up next and got a pin at 175 pounds with 27 seconds to go in the match.
Leo Golembiewski fell at 215 to give Alliance their first six team points of the match. Fletcher Stewart responded at 285 with a pin in the first period to give Chadron a 24-6 lead. Colin McCoy was next up at 106 and got what was the most impressive win of the night, taking down Wyatt Stabnow at 106 by a 4-2 decision.
Alliance took the next three weight classes to get the score to 27-23.
Carson Long was the next one to notch a win for the Cardinals at 132 with a 13-7 decision. Alliance took the next three which gave them a 38-26 lead over the Cardinals which clinched the dual. In the final match of the boys side Quinn Bailey at 157 got a pin a minute into the match to finish off the boys match with Alliance winning 38-36.
In the girls match the Cardinals dominated Alliance by a 47-16 score. The Cardinals took the first five matches, four of them being forfeits. Josie Werner took a tech fall win at 110. Laliee Smith at 100, Taylee Williamson at 115, Abigail Bower at 120, and Bristol Prado at 125 were all credited with forfeit wins over Alliance. Alliance got on the board at 130 with Gianna LaPorte losing to Aiva Raymer. Alliance got the next match as well at 140 with Graycen OโDonnell falling.
Chadron went on another streak, winning the next three weight classes with Adday Tewahade getting a forfeit win at 145. Addison Diers winning by pin at 155 late in the first period and Vivian Golembiewski getting a win by pin 21 seconds into the match at 170 to finish off a 47-16 win.
There were two matches that did not affect the team scoring with Abigail Bower winning by pin at 115 and Adday Tewahade winning by pin at 145.
Next up for both girls and boys wrestling teams is the Douglas/Shane-Shattoe Tournament over Friday and Saturday.
