Two area wrestlers claimed district titles to lead a group of 14 state qualifiers on Saturday.
Chadron will send four to the Class B state meet in Omaha next weekend led by Quinn Bailey who claimed his 2nd straight district championship with an 8-2 win over Brock Malcom of Cozad at 152-lbs. Rhett Cullers fell short of 1st place in the 170-lb championship match.
Braden Underwood and Davin Serres battled back through the consolation brackets of their weight classes to claim 3rd at 132 and 138-lbs.
Gordon-Rushville, in Class C, led the area with five state qualifiers. The Mustangs had a district champ in 113-pounder Ashton Dane with a 5-2 decision over Chauncey Watson of Broken Bow. Kyler Vincent was runner-up 138-lbs.
Tucker Banister captured 3rd at 132-lbs and Jace Freeseman, 152-lbs and Curtis Rittgarn, 182-lbs stumbled in 3rd place matches.
Hay Springs had two in championship bouts and both walked away with silver at the D-4 district. Jarhett Anderson at 113-lbs and Wesley Jacobs at 138-lbs each took 2nd and are off to Omaha.
Anthony Running Hawk ran the consolation bracket gauntlet at 285-lbs and came away with 4th.
Crawford’s Colton Mader came up just short in the title match at 145-lbs and Paden Morava was 4th at 138-lbs.
