Chadron High’s Quinn Bailey successfully defended his state wrestling title with a 2nd period pin in the Class C-157 finals in Omaha to complete a perfect 50-0 season
Bailey’s gold gives the Highway 20 schools of Northwest Nebraska 3 medalists this year as Chadron’s Fia Rasmussen placed 5th at girls 145 while Kyler Vincent of Gordon Rushville took 6th in Boys C 144.
Bailey came in as the #1 seed and lived up to it as he posted a technical fall and a pair of major decisions ahead of his title-winning pin. He now has 2 gold medals after placing 5th as a freshman.
He’s Chadron’s second straight back-to-back champion following Kenli Boeselager a year ago and the first boy’s back-to-back titlist since Will Brown won the 160 and 171-lb titles in 2009 and 2010.
Rasmussen, who was pinned last night in the championship semifinals, lost again this morning by a tough 3-1 decision, but bounced to win the 5th place match with a pin
Vincent had lost in the QFs on Thursday, but won 2 consolation matches yesterday with a decision and pin. Today didn’t go as well as he was pinned in the consolation semifinals and lost 12-6 in the 5th place match.
