Burial is at Holy Cross Episcopal Cemetery in Pine Ridge
A one-night wake service starts Friday, June 10, at 2:00 at the Pine Ridge Elementary School Gym in Pine Ridge.
Chris Joseph Janis was born on April 13, 1965 in Pine Ridge, SD to Leroy “Sunshine” Janis and Wynema (Carlow) DeLong. Chris made his journey to the Spirit World on June 3, 2022 at the Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City, SD.
Barney is survived by children, Carlee (Connor Moynihan) Janis and Katlin Rabbit-Janis both of Pine Ridge, SD; mother, Wynema DeLong of Pine Ridge, SD; significant other, Kim Janis of Pine Ridge, SD; sisters, Fawn (Zig) Trueblood of Pine Ridge, SD, Donita (Taylor) Little Whiteman of Kyle, SD, Jenny Janis of Rapid City, SD, Phoebe Janis and Nicole Trueblood both of Portland, OR, and Ella John Carlow of Pine Ridge, SD; brothers, Louie (Luwana) Janis and Gilbert (Michelle) Janis both of Pine Ridge, SD; his dog Taz; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Barney was preceded in death by his father, Leroy Janis; grandparents, Arta Carlow, Robert Carlow, Roy & Josephine (Palmier) Janis, and Ben Irving; brothers, Mike Janis and Darwin “Bogie” Carlow; and aunt & uncle, Berl & Nancy (Pond) Akers.
Pallbearers will be Leroy Janis, Jade Janis, Jace Janis, Jhet Janis, Greg Pond, Charles Winters, Cole Waters, Cass Waters, and Mike Akers.
Honorary pallbearers will be all friends & relatives.
