With weather forecasts predicting daytime wind chills of 40-degrees below zero today and as low as 60-below tomorrow, the start of the Christmas break is coming early for several area schools.
Gordon-Rushville was scheduled for an early-release day today, but will instead not have classes at all.
Hay Springs, Hemingford, and Crawford were all having early-release tomorrow but Hemingford and Hay Springs will now start Christmas Break this morning and Crawford this afternoon.
Chadron was scheduled for a half-day tomorrow, but Superintendent Ginger Meyer has canceled it, concluding that’s the safest course for everyone – although there are still classes today.
Chadron State College has decided to close the campus both days. Since CSC completed its fall semester last Friday and residence halls and dining services are closed, the closure affects primarily staff and gives everyone a head start on their Winter Break, which now runs Friday to January 3rd.
By the way, if you’re out and about Chadron this morning, you may see or hear the Chadron High School Cardinal Singers out on their Day of Service, a way to say thank you to the community for its support.
The singers will be visiting a number of businesses and organizations to offer some Christmas carols and holiday greetings. They’ll be visiting the KCSR-KBPY studios this morning and joining Jeff Wing on Sound Off.
