Chadron and the surrounding area has at last seen the first few snowfalls of the 2025 winter season. With more on the way in the weather forecast, here is a reminder of some of the City Ordinances pertaining to parking and the clearing of snow.
Chadron City Ordinance Chapter 13 Article 2 states, “It shall be unlawful for the occupant of any lot or lots, or the owner of any vacant lot or lots within the corporate limits of the City to allow snow, sleet, mud, ice, slush or other substance to accumulate on the sidewalk contiguous thereto, or to permit any compacted snow, sleet, ice, mud, or other substance to remain upon the sidewalk or a period of time in excess of twenty-four (24) hours after the cessation of a storm.
Snow removed from non-single family residential private property shall not be placed in or upon the public streets or alleys, except for in the Central Business District of the City, snow from public sidewalks only (not parking lots or other private property) shall be pushed into the gutter of the streets outside the curb line.”
The public is also urged to be aware of the local Emergency Snow Routes. Chapter 16 of City Ordinance outlines requirements for Snow Emergencies and Emergency Snow Routes. The City Manager or Designee is privileged with announcing a snow emergency per Chapter 16 Article 3.
“It shall be unlawful for any persons to park or allow to remain parked any vehicle on any portion of the snow emergency route during a parking prohibition affecting such streets. Once in effect, the parking prohibition imposed under this section shall remain in effect until terminated by the City Manager or Designee.”
