The City of Chadron issued 34 building permits in 2024, which will add an estimated $7.9 million in value.
Almost all the permits were issued for work inside the city limits, with just four of the permits covering work in the cityโs two-mile jurisdictional zone.
Fourteen commercial property permits account for more than $6.9 million in new valuation, up from commercial additions valued at $2 million in 2023. City Planning and Zoning Administrator Janet Johnson said the largest commercial development projects included the St. Patrickโs Catholic Church project for Assumption Academy, the Seventh Day Adventist Church addition and the construction of the Dollar Tree store.
The city issued two permits for new homes, eight additions, four carports, five garages and one manufactured home in the residential category, for a value of $986,520. One of the new homes, one carport, one garage and the manufactured home accounted for the permits in the two-mile zone. The construction was an increase in added valuation from 2023, when residential permits totaled $647,000 in value.
Johnson said the cityโs 34 permits was more in line with the average and was an increase over 2023โs 19 permits. However, a multi-family home issued a permit in 2023 for an estimated value of $7 million means the cityโs overall added value in 2024 dropped from the prior yearโs $9.7 million.
