The Nebraska National Forests and Grasslands says National Forest Service Road 723, commonly referred to as the “Cliffs” Road, reopened to through traffic today as scheduled.
Pine Ridge District Ranger Tim Buskirk says the roughly 4-month closure was required to replace a culvert near The Cliffs area about 8-miles southeast of Chadron.
Buskirk says the new culvert was needed both for public safety and to reduce maintenance costs for the road
Although Cliffs Road was closed to through traffic, national forest users were still able to access The Cliffs area from either direction.
Buskirk thinks that may be one of the reasons he heard very few complaints about the closure – but he still wants to give a big “thank you” to all users for their patience and understanding during the closure.
