Cancellations and postponements are starting to come in ahead of a blizzard predicted to bring 10-18” of snow to the northern Panhandle tonight through Thursday.
The Chadron, Crawford, and Hay Springs have all canceled classes and activities tomorrow with Hay Springs also closed on Wednesday. Decisions for Wednesday in Chadron and Crawford will be made tomorrow.
Chadron State College is closing its campus tomorrow and Wednesday, but Winter Commencement Ceremonies are still scheduled for Friday at 2:00 in the Chicoine Center.
This is Finals Week, with tests starting tomorrow, and the college says instructors will be in touch with students by email by 5:00 on how each of them will proceed. Residences and dining hall will continue with normal operations, but on-campus students are being reminded to contact the Residence Life Office and follow the Break Checkout Procedures.
The Cities of Chadron and Crawford have declared Snow Emergencies. Crawford’s is from 8:00 tonight until 8:00 Thursday morning while Chadron’s is from 9:00 tonight until noon on Thursday.
Vehicles, boats, trailers, and other obstructions must be removed from along the designated snow routes in both cities during a snow emergency. Those that remain may be ticketed or towed
Chadron City Transit will not run tomorrow or Wednesday with the decision on Thursday to be made at a later time.
Tomorrow’s boys and girls basketball games between Hay Springs and Hemingford in Hay Springs have been moved up to today.
The Nebraska Department of Transportation has closed Hwy 87 to through traffic south of Hay Springs and the agency has set out out Road Closed signs along Hwy 20 in the Harrison area in preparation for possible use.
