Shane Collins, of the Chadron State College track and field team, was selected as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week on Wednesday.

Collins, of Bison, South Dakota, launched the hammer implement 59.63 meters (195-8), at the Central Nebraska Challenge on Saturday in Kearney, to finish as runner-up at the event. That mark improved his personal best by more than two and a half feet, over his throw the previous weekend, to qualify him for nationals and rank him seventh in NCAA Division II. Collins also launched the discus 45.99 meters in Kearney to place eighth out of 45 competitors.

It is the second RMAC Field Athlete of the Week honor for a CSC track and field athlete this year, after Derrick Nwagwu was selected on January 19 for indoor triple jump.

Jake Mitchem of Colorado School of Mines is the RMAC Track Athlete of the Week.
