Though they didn’t earn any event titles at Saturday’s Bayard CD Invite, the Lady Rams broke into the top eight enough times to clinch fourth place as a team and were just 12 points behind first-place
Bayard.
The women were led by a trio of second-place finishes. Kylah Vogel was runner-up in the 300-meter hurdles with a new personal record of 50.01 and Paityn Homan was second in the two-mile race with a 13:00.51. The 4×400 relay team of Dalli Anders, Kiera Brennan, Tatum Reid and Vogel also claimed the runner-up spot with a 4:32.22.
The Rams tallied four third-place finishes. The 4×100 relay team of Skylar Summers, Anders, Natalie
Barry and Kyler Gortsema was less than two seconds behind first-place Bayard in a tight race that saw
them finish in 54.06 for third. Reid was on Homan’s heels in the two-mile for third place in 13:05.42, and
Brennan slipped across the 800-meter finish line in 2:40.18. Anders’ 28.22 finish in the 200-meter dash
was also good enough for third place.
Anders picked up a fourth-place medal in the 100-meter dash, clocking a 13.56, and Reid was fourth in
the mile at 6:05.65. Homan finished right behind her in fifth with a time of 6:08.24. Brennan also
grabbed a sixth-place finish in the 400 in 1:05.31, while Gortsema clocked a 29.31 in the 200-meter dash
for eighth. Hannah Wasserburger was the only Lady Ram to medal in a field event this week, taking
eighth in shotput with a throw of 30’8”.
Two members of the Crawford boys’ team picked up individual medals Saturday as well. Levi Van Beek
took fifth in the discus with a throw of 115’6” and finished just outside the top eight in shotput with a
ninth-place showing of 36’5.5”. Payton Horan was seventh in the 800-meter run, crossing the finish line
in 2:22.78.
