The Chadron State College Concert Choir and Community Choir welcome in the return of Standard Time with a free concert at 3:00 in the Chadron Arts Center
Dr Joel Schreuder leads both groups and will have the Community Choir sing first, then return to join the college choir for a pair of Scottish songs: “My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose” and “Loch Lomond.”
The joint concert will be the first time for most of the audience to see or hear Chadron State’s new accompanist, Kathryn “Katie” Hughes, who took over when Bobby Pace left after 7 years to pursue a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Colorado in Boulder.
Coincidentally, Hughes is originally from Boulder and was tipped off to and encouraged to apply for the CSC position by Pace. She grew up in a musically-inclined family with what she calls “an incredibly supportive community from church and school.”
Hughes has a bachelor’s degree in piano performance from the University of Northern Colorado and master’s in collaborative piano from the University of Cincinnati, but says becoming a professional accompanist started as a favor to her best friend.

While she loves being an accompanist, Hughes is also a singer/songwriter, piano and organ soloist, arranger, music director for musicals, and flute playe. She says she likes to keep busy and try new experiences.

Hughes expects to continue along the same professional path for many years.

Hughes has her own website, katiehughesmusic.com, that includes the opportunity to buy several songs she’s written or arranged.
