The Chadron State College men’s wrestling team will finally host the Colorado Mesa Mavericks in a dual at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11 in the Nelson Physical Activity Center.
The dual was originally set for Jan. 19, but the Mavericks could not make the trip since the highways connecting Colorado and Nebraska were closed because of heavy snow.
Mesa has one of the RMAC’s top teams. They were 5-0 in conference duals entering a match at Colorado Western in Gunnison on Thursday night before making the trip to Chadron. CSC Coach Brett Hunter said as many as six Mavericks have been nationally ranked this season.
Among them is Ryan Wheeler, who placed third at 157 pounds at the National Tournament a year ago.
The Eagles are 7-6 overall in duals and 2-3 in RMAC competition entering a match against Colorado Mines in Golden on Thursday night. Mesa recently defeated the Orediggers 26-12 in a dual, but Mines is still 10-2 overall and 4-2 in the RMAC.
Chadron State has received a boost the second semester since Brody Lamb at 157 pounds and Preston Renner at 165 recovered from injuries left over from the 2021-22 season to take the mat again. Lamb is 4-0 and Renner is 6-1 following their return.
Most of the CSC wrestlers who are not in the varsity lineup will enter the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Open at Colorado Mines on Sunday.
