The Chadron State College men’s cross country team finished fifth while the women finished sixth Friday at the Yellowjackets/Battlin Bears open in Billings, Montana.
South Dakota School of Mines won the men’s competition and the University of Mary came away with the team title for the women.
Topi Alahuhta, a sophomore from Pine, Colorado, paced the CSC men with a eight place finish in the 8k race, clockin in at 25:03.5.
The next Eagle to cross the finish line was Charles Fossey, a sophomore from Rock Springs, Wyoming. Fossey finished in 11th place with a time of 25:14.3.
Nate Mann and Cale Schafer were the next two to cross the line, finishing in 22 and 29th place. Mann, a junior from Queen Creek, Arizona, ran the 8k in 25:39.5, and Schafer, a junior from LaSalle, Colorado cross the finish line in 25:47.0.
The last runner to count towards the teams placing was Wyatt Bly, a freshman from Conifer, Colorado. Bly finished in 33rd place with a time of 25:55.3.
The CSC women were led by an 18th place finish by Josie Diffendaffer. Diffendaffer, a sophomore from Berthoud, Colorado finished the 6k race in 23:17.5
Samantha Rodewald, a freshman from McCook, Nebraska crossed the line next for CSC, finishing in 24th place with a time of 23:27.9.
Lydia Peters, Alissa Wieman and Katelyn Beshara were the other three that’s placings went towards the team score.
Peters, a sophomore from Sidney, Nebraska crossed the finish line in 23:36.8, good enough for 26th place. Wieman, a junior of Box Elder, South Dakota, finished in 29th place with a time of 23:41.6, while Beshara, a freshman from Rapid City, South Dakota ran the race in 24:23.6 to finish 39th.
