The National Wrestling Coaches Association issued its second regular season coaches poll on Friday, with the Chadron State College men’s team checking in at No. 22, tied with Central Missouri, which dropped from its No. 9 spot.
CSC gained six points from the December 3 release, after the Eagles’ junior 133 pounder, Quentrevion Campbell, leapt from No. 8 to No. 3 in the individual ranks during the month, while CSC’s 141 pound senior, Ethan Leake, entered the poll at No. 10 nationally.
At 125 pounds, sophomore Quade Smith holds onto the No. 12 spot, after debuting at No. 8, earlier in the month.
There was also a shakeup at the top of the poll, where all 10 of No. 1 Central Oklahoma’s weight classes were filled by top-12 wrestlers nationally. The Bronchos led the preseason No. 1 Kearney Lopers, the defending national champs, by 31 points, and this season’s most recent No. 1, St. Cloud State, by 39.
Two of CSC’s upcoming dual opponents, Adams State University and Colorado Mesa University, were No. 6 and No. 16, respectively.
