The lead up to Chadron State footballโ€™s season opener against rival University of Nebraska-Kearney has been clouded after safety Jason Pugal suffered a serious injury during a practice this past Saturday.

According to the familyโ€™s GoFundMe page, Pugal suffered โ€œa severe neck injury, facturing his neck and compressing his C6 vertebra.โ€

The page says that Pugal has already undergone spinal fusion surgery and will soon begin an intensive rehabilitation program.

The family through their GoFundMe page is hoping to raise $35,000 which according to Dave Collins is what they have been told will be the cost to get Pugal back to his home state of California.

As of 2 p.m. Tuesday, over $30,000 has been raised.
