CSC Seeking Additional Parking at Memorial Hall

Visitors to Memorial Hall will have additional access to handicapped parking in the near future. Chadron State College requested two additional handicapped stalls on the south side of 10th Street near Memorial Hall at Mondayโ€™s City Council meeting. There are currently two stalls, and the college asked the city to create two more.

Zoning Administrator Janet Johnson and Street Superintendent Dustin Glass suggested adding the two additional handicapped spots on the east side of the parking area, closer to Brooks Hall.

Adding them on the west end would require using three regular spots to create the two
handicapped spots, they explained. By moving them to the east end, it would not require the
loss of a third spot.

โ€œThis is city parking,โ€ Johnson said. โ€œThere are 11 apartments across the street that use this.โ€

Council members, however, were in favor of leaving all the handicapped parking on the west end of the parking area to avoid making those who need the spots walk farther than necessary to Memorial Hall. They approved two additional spots, including one that will be van accessible, on the west end of the parking area on the south side of 10 th Street.
