After defeating Colorado Mines in five sets for the first time since 2007 and falling to 9th ranked MSU-Denver last weekend, the Eagle volleyball team faces more tough competition against Wayne State Tuesday evening.
The match, which is in Wayne, will be Chadron State volleyball’s first-ever matchup against the #1 team in the nation since joining Division II in 1989.
The Wildcats are 8-1 on the season and 1-0 in the Northern Sun Conference. Their only loss came against fellow NSIC member and then-#1 Concordia-St Paul in 5 sets in a non-conference match 10 days ago.
The teams met again last Friday and Wayne State won in a sweep, propelling them ahead of Concordia in the latest coaches poll, which came out Monday. Concordia is #2.
The lone loss of the season Sept 9 was in 5 sets against #1 Concordia-St. Paul, which is #2 in the nation in the latest rankings.
Taya Beller leads Wayne State with 124 kills, an average of four per set. Beller is hitting .391 this season.
Kelsie Cada and Maggie Brahmer each have 97 kills. Cada is hitting .278 this season while Brahmer is hitting .370.
The Wildcats setter is Rachel Walker who 324 assists, an average of 10.45.
Defensively, Jordan McCormick leads the Wildcats in digs with 132, an average of 4.26 per set. Two players have over 20 blocks. Maggie Brahmer has 31 while Beller has a team high 40, an average of 1.29 per set.
