Graveside services for 76-year old Curtis Hill are Thurs, May 9, 2024 at 2:00 at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD, with Pastor Stanley Hollow Horn officiating and traditional Lakota services by Albino Garcia Jr.

Visitation will precede the services from 9:00 until noon at the Sioux Funeral Home in Pine Ridge, SD.

Curtis Leroy Hill was born on March 23, 1948 in Sisseton, SD to Ben Hill and Lorraine White.  Curtis made his journey to the Spirit World on April 22, 2024 at his home in Albuquerque, NM.

Curtis was very proud to be a veteran and always acknowledged the VA and worked with them closely. He served in the United States Army for 4 years and was honorably discharged on June 29, 1970.  

Curtis received his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1989 from the Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD, then attended the University of New Mexico and received his Master’s Degree in Science in 1999.  

Curtis worked for Southwest Indian Polytech Institute “SIPI” in Albuquerque for 8 years before he had to take a medical retirement due to health issues.  Curtis loved to help young people and encouraged them to do well; he did this by working at Albuquerque Job Corps, where he influenced many young individuals to get on their feet and do well for themselves. 

Curtis is survived by his wife Clara Cedar Face; children Christina Smith, Michelle Hill, Monica Cortez, and Dr Penny (Craig) End of Horn; adopted daughter Lauren Cortez-Martinez; siblings Donald (Lavetta Fox) Hill, Irvin Hill, and Ginger (Robert Billy) Hill; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grandsons, granddaughters, and great-grandchildren.

Curtis was preceded in death by his son Luke Smith; parents Ben Hill and Lorraine White; brother Marvin Hill; nephews Clayton Hill and Ben Hill; paternal grandparents Lucas and Elisa Hill; and maternal grandparents Charles White and Ella King.

Pallbearers are Santana Martin, Vaughn Stands, Alvaro Martinez, Matt Shoulders, and Casey Morton.

Honorary pallbearers will be Hill Families, White Families, Cedar Face Families, Ogle Sa Wiwang Wachipi Sundance, and All Friends & Relatives.
