Memorial services for 57-year old former Chadron State College athletic trainer Dave Peterson will be held Sat, Dec 9, 2023 at 2:00 at Bethany Lutheran Church, south of Axtell, NE, with the Rev Marcia Dorn officiating. 

Inurnment will be held at the Bethany Lutheran Church Cemetery. 

A memorial book signing with family present will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Dec 8, from 4-6:00 at Craig Funeral Home in Minden. 

Memorials in Dave’s honor are kindly suggested to Bethany Lutheran Church in Axtell, the Axtell High School Scholarship Fund, or to Trail Winds Hospice of Colorado.

David Alan Peterson was born on April 8, 1966, in Minden to Ellery and Joyce (Jacobsen) Peterson. He passed away on Sunday, Nov 19, 2023 at his home in Broomfield, CO, following a courageous battle with Glioblastoma (a very aggressive form of brain cancer).

 David was baptized in 1966 and confirmed in 1979 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Axtell. He graduated from Axtell High School with the class of 1984 and from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1989. 

He furthered his education with a master’s in athletic training from the University of Arizona at Tucson in 1991, then came to Chadron State College as head trainer.

He later worked as a trainer at Pleasant Hill (Calif) Junior College and in Sioux Falls, SD, and with a professional baseball and a professional basketball team. 

In 2001, he attended Colorado State University to obtain a degree in landscape architecture and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 2005. 

In 2007, he moved to Broomfield, where he was employed as a landscape architect. At the time of his passing, he was employed with the Berry Dunn Parks and Recreation Management Team. 

Dave’s hobbies included RV camping around Colorado, California and the Western states. He followed sports teams, especially the Huskers, and enjoyed watching LA Dodgers and Colorado Rockies baseball. 

He played golf and skied, but also enjoyed yard and garden design, beach vacations and going out with friends. He loved his Jack Russells, currently Yuri and Jaxx; formerly Max and Kenzie. 

Those left to cherish his memory include his spouse Steve Hotzler of Broomfield; parents Ellery and Joyce Peterson of Kearney; brother Kent Peterson and wife Tierney Prince of Omaha; sister-in-law Susan and husband Phil Kirk of Jackson, MN; brother-in-law Tom and wife Dawn Hotzler of Lakefield, MN; close friend and helper Erick Vasquez; as well as a host of extended relatives and close friends. 

Dave was preceded in death by his grandparents Eldon and Erlene Peterson, Hazel Peterson, and Edgar and Myrtle Jacobsen.
