Dawes and Sioux Counties have shared a tourism director for the past several years and now they’re going to be sharing a Veterans Service Officer. 36-year old Robert “Spike” Jordan of Harrison starts his Dawes County duties on Monday.
A U-S Marine Corps veteran who served in Afghanistan, Jordan was one of 3 candidates to interview with the Dawes County Veterans Committee. The panel recommended him to the County Commissioners, who made the appointment.
Jordan is a graduate of Sioux County High School and Chadron State College, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism. He’s been the Sioux County Veterans Service Officer for the past 2 years.
Jordan is Secretary of the County Veterans Service Officer Association of Nebraska (CVSOAN), Quartermaster for VFW Post 7970 in Harrison, and a member of the Arch Cullers American Legion Post 138 in Crawford.
As the Dawes County Service Officer, he will start on a 6-month probationary period at $22.00 per hour. A successful review at the end of the 6 months would bring a dollar an hour raise to $23.
