Dawes County Attorney/Coroner Vance Haug has ordered an autopsy and toxicological screening on a woman who died late Friday afternoon at the Dawes County Jail in Chadron.
Haug says 23-year old Aquinnah High Hawk was found dead in her cell with the autopsy and testing to be completed in Scottsbluff Tuesday morning.
Haug and the Nebraska State Patrol were called to jail about 5:00 pm Friday, but he’s giving no other details at this time.
Since High Hawk died in custody, state law requires a grand jury investigation. No date or prosecutor have been determined yet.
Haug had a second unattended death call over the week, but has ruled it as natural causes. 94-year old Donald Haden died in his Chadron home Sunday afternoon with his family with him.
Haug and Chadron police were called to the home about 3:00. Haug reached his conclusion on cause of death after an investigation into Mr Haden’s medical history and interviews with medical personnel and witnesses at the scene.
