Dawes County Road Closed By Washout; Rural Residents Urged To Prepare For Storm

Loading

Dawes County Highway Superintendent Wade Yada says Breakneck Road has been closed by a major washout and will remain closed until further notice.

Breakneck Road is south of Crawford and east of Hwy 71, connecting with Dyer and 4 Mile Roads on its north end and South Belmont Road on its south end.

Yada says because of the anticipated heavy snow and winds over the next two days, it might be the end of the work before the extent of the damage on Breakneck Road can be determined.

Yada is also warning that rural residents may be facing a rerun of storms earlier this winter that closed their roads for multiple days.

The National Weather Services now says the most likely snowfall total in the area will be 14-22” with higher amounts in the Pine Ridge and winds gusting 35-40 mph from tonight through Wednesday, raising the threat of major drifting.

Yada says road crews will be doing their best to get roads open as soon as safely possible, but in the meantime rural residents should make sure they have enough supplies at home to last them for a few days.
