Dawes County Travel Board Lifts Grant Application Moratorium

The Dawes County Travel Board has lifted the moratorium on improvement grant applications it imposed last year when the COVID-19 pandemic virtually halted tourism for several months.

The funds for improvement grants and for promotion grants come from the county’s lodging tax and Discover Northwest Nebraska Director Kerri Rempp says that without visitors the fear was there wouldn’t be enough money to fund existing grants – much less new ones.

Rempp says with tourism rebounding nicely this year, the travel board felt comfortable in lifting the moratorium and will consider new improvement grant applications at its next meeting on October 5th.

Improvement grants are designed to improve the infrastructure of tourist attractions in Northwest Nebraska, including new construction.

The Travel Board considers applications for improvement grants each quarter in January, April, July, and October.
