According to the office of the Dawes County Attorney/Coroner Vance Haug, “On Wednesday, October 2nd at approximately 5 a.m., the Dawes County Attorney/Coroner and the Chadron Police Department were contacted to investigate the death of 70 year old Dawes County inmate, Eddie Sanchez.
Sanchez had been found to be unresponsive in the jail. Lifesaving measures were initiated at the scene and continued during transport to the Chadron Community Hospital where Sanchez was pronounced dead by medical personnel.
Because Mr. Sanchez died while in custody, a Grand Jury will be called to investigate the circumstances behind his death. An autopsy was ordered by the Coroner and completed at Monument Health in Rapid City. More information will be released when appropriate.
