Derek Anthony Brewer was born February 16th,1984, in Pine Ridge, SD, to Julee (Yellow Elk) Brewer of Batesland, SD, and Barton Brewer of Pine Ridge. Derek made his journey to the spirit world October 3rd, 2022, in Rapid City, SD
Derek attended EB Bergquist Elementary School, and North Middle School in Rapid City. He also attended Wolf Creek Middle School and Pine Ridge High School in Pine Ridge.
Derek eventually moved on and graduated from Lead-Deadwood High School at Boxelder Job Corps with some of the highest honors. A few of these include his high school diploma, a trade certificate in Business Technology, Student Leader, Student Government President, Lodge President, Recreational President, and mentor and friend to most.
From a young age, Derek had developed a distinct interest in horror movies and all things Halloween; his lifelong dream was to produce and direct horror movies. With this goal in mind, he attended IAIA in Santa Fe, NM with a special interest in Film and Moving image production.
Derek loved live concerts and shows, his first concert was Guns’N’Roses when he was 8 years old (despite terrified pleas from his mom).
He was a die-hard Raiders fan, (Los Angeles, Oakland and Las Vegas). He enjoyed WWF, WWE, reading and researching the paranormal, Rock’n’Roll autobiographies, and had the most eclectic taste in music including rap, hip hop, 80’s pop, 90’s alternative, rock, metal, and whatever else he could headbang to.
Derek also loved to cook, you never had to ask or tell him twice, he would be up in the kitchen tossing together a 5-star meal. One of his many dreams included starting a food truck business with his father and brother. Derek was incredibly charismatic, loving, intelligent, funny, and someone who always gave you a giant bear hug when he seen you. He was a loyal son, a protective brother, a loveable grandson and nephew, a caring uncle & father, and the best cousin you’ll ever have. He had the most amazing, albeit sarcastic sense of humor, a beautiful, bright smile and an infectious laugh. Once he got started, you couldn’t help but join in with his laughter.
He will be severely missed by all who were affected by his memorable and extraordinary spirit.
Rest easy, you’re with Mom now.
