Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services
The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) is hosting virtual technical support sessions for Nebraska families. The support sessions provide families direct access to a DDD subject matter expert for questions related to eligibility, waivers, and service coordination.
In March of 2024, DHHS announced a plan to eliminate the wait for developmental disabilities services to better support Nebraskans with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The Department has already made significant progress in reducing the Developmental Disabilities (DD) Waitlist. When the plan was announced the number of Nebraskans on the waitlist was 2,706. As of January 2025, the DD Waitlist has been reduced to 940. These virtual support sessions are an excellent opportunity for families to discuss the waitlist elimination plan.
Tony Green, Director of DDD stated, โPlease utilize this opportunity to hear information directly from the state about service options. We are here to help, and we want to connect families to the services that best fit their unique needs.โ
Sessions are available February 10 โ 14. Families have the option to select a preferred day and general time frame for their session. Families will be matched with a subject matter expert based on specific needs indicated in the registration. Each session is scheduled for 30 minutes. Registration is open now through February 5, 2025. If a family is unavailable for a support session during this time frame or for a late registration, please contact dhhs.DDDCommunityBasedServices@nebraska.gov. In the correspondence please, indicate your name, contact information, and availability.
DDD serves around 13,500 Nebraskans who are aging and/or experiencing a disability through one of our long-term support Waiver programs. DDD currently operates and oversees five Home and Community-Based Service Waivers: Aged and Disabled (AD) Waiver; Family Support Waiver (FSW), Comprehensive Developmental Disabilities (CDD) Waiver, Developmental Disabilities Adult Day (DDAD) Waiver; and the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Waiver.
