There will be a Fall Festival at Dobbyโ€™s Frontier Village east of Alliance on Saturday and Sunday,ย  September 21 and 22,ย

Thirty-seven years ago, Kenneth โ€œDobbyโ€ Lee of Alliance decided to cteate Dobbyโ€™s Frontier Town or Pioneer Village, a miniature version of the city of Alliance in its early years,   Lee , who passed away in 2009, saved over 20 buildings from ruins and worked roughly 3000 hours a year to keep the buildings and grounds in good repair.

This year, volunteers have added walls to the livery stable, put an awning above the bank and quilt shop; they repaired the boardwalk, and the General Store just got a fresh coat of paint.

This was all done without running water,  indoor plumbing, or cell phones.

Buildings you can visit at Dobbyโ€™s Pioneer Village  include  the Anderson log cabin, which was occupied by  a Buffalo Soldier who had been stationed at Ft Robinson after which he homesteaded near Alliance.. Thereโ€™s also Miller’s Furniture Store and Funeral Home; The Kandy  Snap; and Rex โ€˜s Hamburgersโ€”over twenty buildings in all.

Again, thatโ€™s the Dobbyโ€™s Pioneer Village Fall Festival, the weekend of September 21st and 22nd. The location is 320 East 25th Street, Alliance,  Hours are 10 to 5 on Saturday and 10 to 4 on Sunday.  There is no admission charge, contributions are welcome.
