Funeral Services for Donald Haden of Chadron, Nebraska will be held Thursday, September 29, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron, Nebraska.

Burial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Chadron, Nebraska.

Donald Ray Haden, age 94, passed away September 25, 2022 at his home.

Donald was born September 11, 1928, in Chadron, Nebraska to Martha Mabel (Grantham) Haden and Rollie Ray Haden.

He grew up in the area known as the Deadhorse Creek Community; where he attended country schools: Evergreen, Flag Butte, and Rose Hill, until he finished the eighth grade. He then attended Chadron High school through the twelfth grade. Graduating in 1946.

When he was a young boy, he loved to hunt and fish. He also ran a trap line, sold enough animal furs to buy a saddle horse. He rode his horse to school in the country and after graduating for the eighth grade rode his horse to catch the rural mail carrier to ride into Chadron to attend high school. Sometimes in the winter he roomed with his aunt who was living in Chadron at the time.

January 22, 1950, he married Martheena Roberts, whom he met during his High School Days. They had two Children: Connie and Steven.

Donald was a country boy at heart. He and his family always lived in the country. He was a lifetime member of the American Hereford Association, and the American Yorkshire Association, he raised both cattle and hogs. He enjoyed checking fences, cattle, and windmills on horseback.

He was always active in community affairs and enjoyed helping neighbors when ever help was needed. He also served on the Rural School Board for several years was also president of the Dawes County Chapter of the Nebraska Farm Bureau for two years. He always enjoyed short road trips to hunt for rocks and just to enjoy the wide-open country. One of his favorite hunts was the Black Hills of South Dakota, where he always spotted something new and interesting.

He always provided well for his family and was a wonderful husband and father. In 2003 he had a farm sale and he and his wife moved into Chadron to retire.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister Edna Maxine, great-grandson Zane.

Survivors include his Wife, brother Gayle, 2 children, 4 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial has been established in lieu of flowers for Donor’s Choice and donations may be sent in care of Chamberlain Chapel, PO BOX 970, CHADRON, NE 69337.

    I was so sorry to see the obituary of your father in the Chadron Record. My sincere condolences to both of you. It’s so hard to say a final good-by to one’s father. You will find comfort in many wonderful memories. May Mr. Haden rest in peace.
